The Measure Of One’s Life

T

The measure of one’s life is not the amount of money, fame, or power he has accumulated but the legacy he has left behind.

Money is a limited resource that can be passed on to generations and when managed wisely can provide comfort for the beneficiaries in the form of allowances and distributions (annuity). However if not managed well, it can be eroded by inflation or worse, lost entirely due to mismanagement.

Fame is the state of being known for having or doing something important, at least until that something has been forgotten or devalued over time. Many famous people in history are remembered for what they have contributed in their lifetime, however, the impact of contribution does not increase in value after.

Power is like the authority/control over the population and is usually accompanied by a position of power. Once the title has been lost, whether through the loss of the position or the demise of one’s life, the power is transferred to another.

Legacy refers to the lasting impact and the way a person will be remembered for generations to come – not just in his achievements, financial assets, or incredible character but also in the influence he has on people (and hopefully the people after) after his lifetime.
